Charlie was born on February 1, 1921 at North Bay.
He attended Jarvis Collegiate in Toronto.
He enlisted in the RCAF in 1940 at Toronto. #1 Manning Depot, Toronto; Guard Duty at Picton and Chatham NB #3 ITS, Victoriaville; #12 EFTS, Goderich; #5 SFTS, Brantford and then Trenton, Re-selection; #6 B&G Mountainview and received his AG wing in August 1941.
He was posted overseas to Bournemouth then to Manby, Gunnery School; Stormy Down, Turret Course and then to OTU, at Upper Heyford.
Charlie was posted to 83 Squadron RAF, 5 Group, then 8 Group(PFF) and then to 207 Squadron 5 Group.
His crew consisted of: *PILOT - P/O Glen McNichol, RCAF; **NAV - F/O Harold Beaupre, RCAF; **BA - Jack Crowe, RAF; ** FE - W/O George Mott, RAF; * WOP - Harold MacFarlane, RAF; *2nd PILOT - Ottey RAF;
**BA - P/O Bill Lewis, RCAF (USA); **MUG - F/Sgt Alex Willis, RAF; *MUN - Jock Whyte, RAF.
* Presumed killed in action.     ** POW

Memorable ops: The first!! - first 1,000 bomber raid on Cologne, June 1942.
