Most Memorable Operation
Ed reports: “I don’t think that I experienced anything out of the ordinary ... am continually amazed that I survived!” but he adds;...”crash
landed on bomb-load, full of flak and 0.50 and afire all over...”
“Shot down October 22, 1943 on low level operation near Flushing, Holland, in afternoon. F/O Brown was killed. No evasion was possible. Sgt. Shaw and I were captured
immediately. Five other aircraft lost at the same time in the same place: four survivors - total.
A most memorable operation that happened in early ‘42 was my meeting with a beautiful young nursing sister, Joan (Peg) Graham in
Windermere, who consented to marry me. Our wedding was in Carlisle on Nov. 4th, 1942 and so we are now in our 59th year of wedded bliss. July 27,2001
