Bob was born in Toronto on July 20, 1921. He attended Lawrence Park Collegiate and graduated with a Senior Matriculation.
He enlisted in the RCAF at Toronto in 1940. He trained at Picton, London and Camp Borden where
he received his Pilot Wing on October 6, 1941.
He was posted overseas and landed at Bournemouth on November 4, 1941. He did his OTU at Grangemouth, Scotland.
He served on many Squadrons in Fighter Command:- #167, #1435, #245 and #402 and the stations served on
were:Scorton, Yorks; Acklington, Nurthumberland; Castletown, Scotland; Ludham, Norfolk; Luqa, Malta; and various airfields in Holland and Germany.
Bob reports: “Blundered into a group of barrage balloons while flying a Typhoon with #245
Squadron. Not amusing at the time but later I could joke about the P/O Prune take-off.
I was shot down by ME. 109 on a fighter sweep to Comiso, Sicily. Bailed out into the Mediterranean. Picked up by HS Launch out of St. Paul’s Bay,
Malta. “Awarded” Caterpillar and Goldfish.
I was discharged from the RCAF in 1945 at Toronto.
I attended the U. of T., and then the Ontario Veterinary College, D.V.M. degree. Vetinary practice.
Married Ruth on July 12, 1941. We have three children and seven grandchildren. March 15, 2001
