Murray was born on March 27, 1916 at North Bay, Ontario. He moved to Toronto and received his Sr. Matric at North Toronto Collegiate. He moved to Kirkland Lake and attended Kirkland Lake High School.
He joined the RCAF at Kirkland Lake in June, 1942.
He served at #1 ITS in Toronto, Fingal, Hunt Club in Toronto and then at Malton where he received his Navigator
Wing in the summer of 1943.
He was posted overseas in the summer of ‘43 arriving at Bournemouth. He was posted on a Commando Course at
Whitley Bay. He was eventually posted to #115 Squadron, 3 Group at Witchford, England flying Lancaster Bombers
I lost my log book over the past years and he can’t rremember specific raids or targets. One time we did evasive
action with a full load of bombs abord. We went into a dive and nearly crashed but Bruce eventually pulled up.
Another time over a Rhur Valley target we were “coned” by ground searchlights. We had just dropped our bombs
and again took evasive action and managed to get clear and arrived home on 3 engines - we lost an engine to flack.
Murray left the RCAF at Toronto in the Spring of 1945 - he was a Flying Officer.
He joined his father in the concrete block business in Oshawa along with 2 other brothers, both overseas with the
RCAF and later a younger brother, Cameron. It was called “Henderson Concrete Products Ltd. and we sold it in
Married in June 30, 1945. Wife Jean passed away August 1996. I now live in a condimium by myself.
