Howard served a total of 32 years in the RCAF in a wide variety of posts, summarized as follows:
1949 --- Adjutant, RCAF Staff College, Toronto.
1951 --- Res. Staff Officer, University of Toronto
1953 --- #103 Rescue Unit, Greenwood, Nova Scotia
1954 --- After Maritime OTU, Summerside, posted to #405 (MP) Squadron, Greenwood. (RN Leader) ( Nato ASW exercises on Lancaster, Neptune and Argus a/c.)
1958 --- Operations Officer, Maritime HQ,Halifax and later at HM Dockyard, RCN/RCAF Combined Staff, Halifax 1964 --- Commanding Officer, RCAF Support Unit, 1 Air Division HQ Metz, France.
1965 --- Director of Studies, RCAF Staff School, Toronto.
1966 --- Member of Directing Staff and Senior Plans, Canadian Forces Staff College.
1972 --- Retired as Wing Commander from Canadian Forces after 32 years.

Howard joined the Ontario Government Ministry of Colleges and Universities in senior management of program development for thirteen years, retiring in 1984.

Howard met his bride, Doris on a Sunday picnic while he was stationed at # 6 B & G School, Mountain View after returning from the UK. They have two children, Robert and Margaret.            April 19, 2001
